SD4256 : Warning sign, Sunderland

taken 10 years ago, near to Glasson, Lancashire, Great Britain

Warning sign, Sunderland
Warning sign, Sunderland
Sunderland means "separated land" and this tiny hamlet is cut off from the larger village of Overton, on the other side of Lades Marsh, twice a day by the tide. This sign warns would be travellers to take care not to stray from the well marked tidal road.

Overton dyke, an extensive flood defence, can be seen in the distance towards the left. On the horizon giant pylons carry electricity away from Heysham Nuclear Power Stations.
