TQ4298 : Epping Forest: stone weir

taken 10 years ago, near to Loughton, Essex, Great Britain

Epping Forest: stone weir
Epping Forest: stone weir
A small stone weir on one of the many minor streams draining the forest. The weir seems to be intended to prevent silting up of the culvert under the Green Ride (the main north-south track through the forest, from which the photo was taken) but perhaps due to poor maintenance had failed in its job as the water in the foreground had backed up above the culvert. Fortunately it was in a dry spell with no discernible flow in the stream.
