The large rectangular rocks at the centre of the base of the cairn are probably part of a cist (Coflein[1]: LinkExternal link ) used for funerary purposes in ancient times. The cairn connects with the ancient boundary earthwork of Gwys yr Ychen Bannog LinkExternal link which stretches northwest for over 2km. For a wider view, see LinkExternal link .
