SD9695 : Old mine ruins, Summer Lodge Moor

taken 9 years ago, near to Crackpot, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Old mine ruins, Summer Lodge Moor
Old mine ruins, Summer Lodge Moor
Remains of bouse teams and dressing floors at Summer Lodge Lead Mine.

Bouse teams are the bunkers [usually stone built] where miners stored the ore before it was crushed and dressed - ie. the valuable galena lead ore was separated from the waste stone and unwanted minerals. Once 'dressed' the ore would have been taken along the trackway seen in the photo to Summer Lodge Smelt Mill [now completely gone].
