Esgair Gemlyn
This image shows the shingle bar formed across the Cemlyn Bay by wave action. This has trapped a lagoon on its landward side. The Welsh word "esgair" is akin to the Irish "eiscir (esker)" - meaning a deposited ridge of gravel/sand. Cemlyn means "crooked lake" - referring obviously to the brackish lagoon behind the bar.
