Salts Recreation Ground, Seaford
Another former inlet from the sea and for a time included the course of the River Ouse. Seaford's wealth as a port disappeared when nature conspired to block the passage of the Ouse and change the mouth so that by 1539 engineers were digging a new channel out at Newhaven. Even this proved temporary as storms pushed the mouth east again and it wasn't until 1731 that the new cut was reopened again. This view looks east from Marine Parade, the embankment carries the railway.
