This bench with a beautifully carved memorial depicting a goal scoring at the nearby SK1644 : Clifton Goal of the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football Match. David Johnson was a keen player of this ancient game for over 20 years. Sadly he passed away at the end of the 2007 Tuesday match and this bench has been installed in his memory.
