Demolition of Robb's, Belfast
Robb’s department store was built in 1877 on the site of an earlier store destroyed by fire. In common with the other department stores in Belfast (J3374 : Former Robinson & Cleaver building, Belfast (2), J3374 : Former Anderson & McAuley's, Belfast (detail) (2), J3374 : The Bank Buildings, Belfast (detail) (2), J3374 : Arnott's Buildings, Belfast and J3374 : Art Deco detail, Belfast (1)) it closed (in 1973) with the fall in business following the bombing campaign. It was then divided into smaller shops. There was unsuccessful opposition to demolition of the building – now replaced by the Donegall Arcade J3374 : The Donegall Arcade, Belfast.
