On the 9th Oct 1877, Sir William Cunliffe Brooks shot an elusive stag at a distance of 267 yards. So pleased was he at this feat that he caused two monuments to be erected on the slopes of Duchery Beg to commemorate it. The further monument is visible on the skyline.
