Track through the Pondhead Inclosure, New Forest
Track through the Pondhead Inclosure, New Forest
Looking east along the track that divides the north and south parts of the Pondhead Inclosure, towards the Parkhill Hotel grounds. The land was first enclosed in 1810 and some of the original oak can be seen either side of the lane, with young beech holding on to their winter leaves. Unlike the vast majority of New Forest enclosures, the Pondhead Inclosure has a six-foot high fence around its perimeter to keep deer out. The lack of grazing by stock or deer means that there is more ground cover than usual.
