Rare steam engine, Markham Grange
The two cylinders and the crankshaft to their right are parts of a unique vertical cross compound engine from Dearneside Mills, Denby Dale. The Yorkshire branch of the Northern Mill Engine Society removed this in the late 1970s but could never find a home to re-erect it in. It was later gifted to Markham Grange steam Museum but it too was unable to re-erect it. Fortunately, the Northern Mill Engine Society is now preparing to re-erect it in its Bolton Steam Museum. I am delighted on two counts - it's unique and I helped to remove it (in a minor way).
