Newburgh: Sands of Forvie at dusk
The view across the Ythan Estuary as the setting sun lights up the dunes on the Sands of Forvie. The dunes are unusual in that they lie at right angles to the coast and gradually move northwards until they become consolidated, first by marram grass and eventually by heather and other heath plants. The view shows the leading edge of the latest mobile dune in the series. There is a solitary shelduck at 3 o'clock.
