Holly and oaks in Gritnam Wood, New Forest
Holly and oaks in Gritnam Wood, New Forest
The path in the foreground leads south out of Gritnam Wood to the Hursthill Inclosure. There are many fallen oaks in this old woodland, which supports a good range of wildlife. The holly is actively managed, being "pollarded" (cut off at head height) to provide winter food for the commoners' ponies.
