An alga (Trentepohlia) on rock
An alga (Trentepohlia) on rock
In the pit of a former lime-kiln (NS4381 : Remains of lime-kiln), a rock has a fluffy covering of algae of the genus Trentepohlia, some of it catching the rays of the sun; see NS8281 : An alga (Trentepohlia) on a tree.

There are several different Trentepohlia species; the tufts of the particular species that is shown here growing on rock were rather coarse.
