NN2545 : High on Stob Coire Odhair

4 km from Black Mount, Argyll And Bute, Great Britain

High on Stob Coire Odhair
High on Stob Coire Odhair
Taken at over 900m this shows the thin grasses and stone fields that are common on Highland hills. Unlike the common mica schists, the igneous rocks here do not weather easily into soil, and are somewhat acidic, and less fertile than the rocks on the grassier hills in the distance, beyond Loch Tulla. These are the hills behind Bridge of Orchy, from the left: Beinn a'Chreachan(1081m) Beinn Achaladair(1038m), Beinn an Dothaidh(1004m) and Beinn Dorain(1076m).
