SM9738 : Dor beetle (Geotrupes stercorarius)
3 km from Dinas Cross, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Great Britain

Dor beetle (Geotrupes stercorarius)
These beetles are easily recognisable with their large, irridescent carapaces. Also known as dung beetles, they subsist upon the droppings of a variety of mammals, from grazing animals to rabbits and foxes (by whom they are also eaten). They store faeces underground to feed their larvae thus contributing to both waste disposal and fertilization of the soil.
