Turntable Installation
Taken at Wansford Station in 1977, this Turntable was undergoing installation by the Nene Valley Railway. Originally a 60ft turntable it was built & installed by Ransome & Rapier of Ipswich in 1933 at Bourne, Lincolnshire, where it was used until 1959. When Bourne Loco shed closed the table was moved to Peterborough East, where it saw use for turning East Anglian travelling post office (TPO) vans. In 1977 the table was moved from Peterborough to Wansford and extended by 7ft prior to installation, so that large steam locomotives could be turned on it. This preserved line was one of the first to have this type of equipment installed. It was commissioned in 1978 & has been in use ever since.
