Turbine at The Mill
The private owner of the old mill at Wingfield Park has had this turbine installed at the old mill weir. The turbine relies on a siphon arrangement to increase the head, and is a type developed for use in developing countries. A small electric motor is required to prime the siphon, but this increases the available head at this site by around 40%. The average flow in the river is in fact relatively low, largely due to the fact that there is no major tributary below the Ogston Reservoir, and the installation is only rated at around 5KWh. It nevertheless provides a nice little offset from the normal electricity bill for the owner.
