Some twenty years ago I worked at a nearby school. One day the school's beloved caretaker fell off a step ladder changing a fluorescent light. An ambulance came and took him to hospital, but sadly he died a few weeks later. His funeral was held during the Easter holidays at the chapel in Milton Cemetery- an emotional occasion attended by many pupils, parents and staff both past and present. Since then I've gone past on the bus many, many times and vowed I would one day go in and find Jimmy's grave. I really thought I knew pretty much which section of the cemetery it would be in. So today I had the time and failed miserably to find it. However, I thought a lot about my dear old pal. One thing I remember very clearly. He came from a very remote part of Ayrshire and always maintained that he went to school on Christmas morning. They all then trooped to the kirk, where after a service the headmaster dismissed them for the day. Could this be true?
