Meeting of streams of the River Ray
Meeting of streams of the River Ray
Though it is hard to make out, this is the point where a stream, in the ditch coming from the left of the picture, meets the upper course of the River Ray, which comes from the right of the picture. Here the Ray, see SP6921 : River Ray, Grendon Wood, is only a small stream which then flows south-west to the River Cherwell, and then into the Thames. However it is nonetheless marked on the OS 1:50,000 map even closer to its source 4km to the east.

The stream coming from the left has its source on the north side of Finemere Hill 3km to the north-east, SP7222 : Source of stream, Finemere Hill. This would be of little interest except that all the other streams flowing north off Finemere Hill end up in the Ouse which flows into the Wash. This stream however follows a circuitous course to get to this point, and eventually ends up in the Thames.
