The ore wagon at Lydgett's Junction
The ore wagon at Lydgett's Junction
This ore wagon (strictly speaking a hot metal carriage, but commonly referred to as a crucible) was abandoned in the bushes after the closure of the Consett steelworks in 1980. The track was cut both in front and behind. With the regeneration of the site in the late 1980s/early 1990s, a short length of track was relaid, and the Army winched the wagon up to its present position at an important junction of cycleways.
