The original Island Gardens station
The original Island Gardens station
A view from road level of the elevated platforms and central lift shaft / staircase at the original Island Gardens DLR station. The glass and polycarbonate dome was deliberately designed to mimic the shape of the nearby foot tunnel entrance TQ3878 : North shaft of Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Another contributor's views at platform level are seen in TQ3878 : Isle of Dogs. and TQ3878 : Isle of Dogs..

It was at this station on 30 July 1987 that Queen Elizabeth formally opened the first DLR route from here to Tower Gateway.
