SH6427 : Boggy slope at Nantcol

5 km from Pentre Gwynfryn, Gwynedd, Great Britain

Boggy slope at Nantcol
Boggy slope at Nantcol
The map shows a right of way climbing steeply onto the saddle between Rhinog Fawr and Foel Ddu, leading across to Gloywlyn and Cwm Bychan. It does not exist as a path on the ground, and stiles across the various ancient drystone walls give a somewhat more westerly line. This picture was taken just after passing Nantcol. The wall shown is crossed by a stile just left of centre, and then the slog up a boggy, pathless and steep slope begins. Progress is slow, but the views ahead at Rhinog Fawr, sideways to Rhinog Fach and y Llethr, and back over Cwm Nantcol make it worthwhile. There is some historical interest in the form of abandoned farm buildings half way up, too.
