SU9949 : Guildford Bus Station

taken 15 years ago, near to Guildford, Surrey, Great Britain

Guildford Bus Station.
Guildford Bus Station.
The Bus Station is adjacent to the modern indoor shopping mall, "The Friary". The bus is a vintage one of local company, "Safeguard", running here to commemorate 50 years of service in the borough. The Friary gets its name from the former Dominican Friary (dissolved by Henry VIII) which once stood on this site. Allders department store in The Friary was replaced by British Home Stores and latterly by Primark.
The old bus here (200APB, AEC Reliance, 1950s vintage) was on the streets of Guildford to celebrate 80 years of Safeguard Coaches. Safeguard still operates some town services in the borough.
