Grandson of Royal Oak
This tree was planted in the grounds of SJ8308 : Boscobel House as a sapling by the then Bishop of Lichfield in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897 (see SJ8308 : Commemorative Plaque - Boscobel House) so is itself well over 100 years old now. The plaque mistakenly suggests that the tree from which it was spawned was the original Royal Oak, whereas in fact it was already a well established specimen of the second generation by that time. See SJ8308 : The Royal Oak for more details on its parent.
