The Weeping Stone, St Chad's Park
The Weeping Stone, St Chad's Park
The Weeping Stone is a sandstone pillar which was originally an ancient cross situated in Park Brow and was a resting place for Catholic mourners on their way to St Swithin's in Gilmoss. In the 1880's Lord Sefton had the badly damaged cross cleaned and shaped into this obelisk. It was moved to St Chad's Park, Old Hall Lane in 1961.
