TQ0201 : Nineteenth Century Fort

taken 9 years ago, near to Littlehampton, West Sussex, Great Britain

Nineteenth Century Fort
Nineteenth Century Fort
Built in 1854 as fear of invasion grew. However an inspection in 1870 deemed its defences to be inadequate in the face of modern artillery and slowly declined until it was dismantled in 1891. In 1950 further demolition of unsafe structures took place leaving just the Carnot Wall and the rampart which are still visible today.
