Loch Kinord: The crannog
On Loch Kinord there is a small island which is the best example of an Iron Age crannog in the whole of the North East of Scotland.
Dating back to the early years of the first millennium AD the crannog is a man made island, created from wood and stone on which a dwelling house would have stood. Crannogs were defensive structures.
Four oak log boats have been found in the Loch around the crannog.
