Former Palais de Danse, Fountainbridge
Former dance-hall in Fountainbridge awaiting its uncertain fate. Originally an indoor circus and skating-rink opened in 1911, it was run jointly as the Coliseum cinema and ballroom. It was converted in 1920 and flourished during the halcyon days of ballroom dancing in the 1930s and 1940s. It continued in use as a ballroom until 1967 when it succumbed to the Bingo craze that swept the nation. One of its patrons in the 1950s was the young future actor, Sean Connery, who lived a couple of hundred yards away in the same street.
