Brook's Statnalls Wood
I haven't yet discovered where this unusual name comes from, nor the curious position of the apostrophe, but this, all the maps agree, is the name for this little wooded area. The photo was taken from the top of a nearby 202m hillock (seen in SP9514 : Hillock, Brook's Statnalls; misty morning) looking roughly southwestwards. In the mid distance can be seen some water twinkling, this belongs to the flooded chalk pits near Folly Farm next to the B488. The water than can be seen much further away belongs to the reservoirs to the north of Tring which supply water to the Grand Union Canal. Of these two distant light patches, I think that the nearer water (on the right) comprises Marsworth, Startopsend and Tringford Reservoirs (which adjoin each other), while the further one is Wilstone Reservoir.
