BBC Television Centre, entrance on Wood Lane
One of the world's first structures specifically designed for the making and transmission of television, it remains one of the largest. It was officially opened on 29 June 1960. In July 2009 the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) designated the complex a Grade II Listed Building on the advice of English Heritage by virtue of its special historic and architectural interest as the first purpose-built television centre in the country. The listing protection extended to the main building and Studio 1, not other parts of the complex such as the canteen and other studios.
