Daffurn's Orchard, Kemerton
Daffurn's Orchard, Kemerton
This apple, pear and plum orchard belongs to the community. Betty Daffurn lived in the cottage beside it all her life. When she died she gave the village the opportunity to buy it cheaply, rather than have it developed for housing. Betty's father used to make cider and perry, with a cider press at the bottom of the orchard. There are many old varieties of fruit trees - not all have been identified yet. A local group "Kemerton orchard workers" help maintain the orchard, and are learning pruning techniques.
