Scalpay Fish Processing Factory - now closed
The 2880 sq m plant, operational from March 2001 to early 2005, was constructed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and was being rented by Stolt Sea Farms on a 20 yr lease. The £10m development was expected to provide 109 full time equivalent jobs, with investment of £4.5m by HIE. Following a merger of Stolt the factory was closed after only 4 years. Fish is now processed on the mainland.
The factory is now partly open and a new company is operating from the site washing and repairing the nets used on the fish farms.
