Nos.252-260 Anlaby Road, Hull
Looking north-northeast across Anlaby Road from the grassy patch at the corner of Saner Street. These five properties are what remains of Milton Terrace, a row of thirteen houses built around the time of the 1871 census. No.252 was originally home to Thomas Stratten, one of the pioneers of Hull’s Board School system, and from around 1920 it was used as the vicarage to Holy Trinity Church. This picture is flattering in a way because from other angles the houses look a little out of place in their surroundings. No.260 on the left is shored up at the gable end where houses to the west were demolished to make way for the railway viaduct in 1964-65, and No.252 on the right is now the offices of East Yorkshire Motor Services whose bus depot is right next door. Apart from that, despite the fact there are no cars in the picture this is actually a very busy stretch of the A1105 dual carriageway.
