Smiddyseat: Hillhead Chain Home Radar Station
One of the domestic buildings at the old Chain Home Radar station at Hillhead.
Hillhead was one of the many radar stations that protected the east coast during the second world war. The extensive site is protected by a steel fence and many pillboxes, some with searchlight and gun pits on their roofs. In addition to the domestic buildings the site contains main and reserve transmitter and receiver bunkers. The masts have all been removed.
