Church of St Andrews, Bothal
There has been a church on this site from c882AD. Built initially by the Anglo Saxons, it was later replace by a Norman Church in 12thC by Richard Bertam who resided in Bothal. The graveyard is the most peaceful place filled with many huge and beautiful trees.
The church contained a fine (but mutilated) alabaster altar-tomb of the Ogles (Sir Thomas Ogle and his wife, Baroness Bertram) at the time of Murray's Handbook (1890). Is it still recognisable today?
