Support for the Major Oak

This shows the substantial metal props that support the large branches of this ancient tree. These were installed in 2001 to replace the old wooden posts that had been in use since 1975. Note the strong steel cables anchoring the props to the ground. These are also used higher up in the crown of the tree to stabilise the upper branches.
