Motala gate
Motala is where British Rail metals change to Swanage Railway metals. The sign reads "STOP - Do not proceed without permission". Any train wishing to travel from Wareham to Swanage has to halt at the red sign, unlock the gate across the track before proceeding on to Swanage. Motala is named after the nearest house, who used to breed Motala cocker spaniels in kennels. The photo was taken from the level crossing 170 yards NW (see SY9483 : Motala crossing), there is a £1,000 fine for trespassing on the railway!
