Roman fortlet near Durisdeer
The ditches and ramparts of the Durisdeer Roman fortlet are very well preserved. The fortlet guarded the Roman road which linked Nithsdale and Clydesdale, and was probably occupied twice in the Antonine period. It was excavated in 1938, when evidence of two timber-built barrack blocks was found.
