SD9394 : Shale bank, Oxnop Beck Head
4 km from Ivelet, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Shale bank, Oxnop Beck Head
Shale of the Carboniferous period is one of the major rock types of the Yorkshire Dales, but compared to limestone and sandstone it is little seen at the surface and is generally ignored. The rock is soft and easily eroded and thus tends to be buried under peat or other deposits. A good exposure here at the head of Oxnop Gill.
