SK4641 : Tuesday at the Fair
near to Ilkeston, Derbyshire County, Great Britain

Tuesday at the Fair
For a week in October each year, travelling showmen take over the town centre to stage the Annual Charter Fair. Henry III's Royal Charter of 1252 means that Ilkeston's fair is actually older than Nottingham's more famous Goose Fair and it is also one of the largest street fairs to be held in Europe. On Tuesday the fair begins to take shape as rides and sideshows are assembled in the Market Place. The 2005 fair was the 753rd - images from the 748th can be seen at Link
