Purns Mill, Gillingham

This used to be one of three working mills in Dorset, but the long established animal feed manufacturer G B Matthews & Co Ltd ceased trading here in 2003. The original picturesque mill that stood on the site was painted three times by John Constable, before it burnt down in 1825. The C18 fire engine that was in attendance was eventually acquired by Gillingham Museum, where it is now on display. Purns Mill currently stands derelict.
