Dover (Kent) - white cliffs
This is the South Foreland viewed from the extremity of the breakwater. The depression is the location of St Margaret's at Cliffe, a small and quaint place you reach by a steep and winding lane. The majestic chalk cliffs are the first sight of England travellers from the Continent have had for centuries. Their counterparts can be seen in Northern France and Normandy in France as they are one and the same layer of chalk that the water of the English Channel filled in when the whole area slowly subsided eons ago. By the way, a very smooth sea for once.
