Dunrod Passing Loop
Dunrod Passing Loop
As dusk settles, a Wemyss Bay bound commuter train exits the loop onto the single track section, having just passed a stationary Glasgow bound train. Dunrod Farm and Spango Valley are visible in the background.
Dunrod passing loop
The passing loop at Dunrod farm between IBM Halt and Inverkip stations is a short stretch of double track on the otherwise single line 10 mile long Wemyss Bay branch from Port Glasgow LinkExternal link .

The loop enables two trains per hour to be run at peak times. It also enables special trains to be run without interfering with the scheduled timetable. It can accommodate long trains, including the nine coach Royal Scotsman plus its two locomotives.

A mineral line used to run from Dunrod to the sandstone quarries at the top of Shielhill Glen. Some evidence of the junction can still be seen today LinkExternal link .
