Trinity Green, Paughanstown, Co. Louth
This corner of a large field is the location of a holy well. It is marked as 'Trinity Green' and 'Trinity Well' and indicated as an antiquity on the 1st edition of the O.S. map, surveyed in 1835. Ordnance Name Books of the time recorded that “a Station is held at it by the old men and women of the neighbouring country on Trinity Sunday, whence the name, but the Parish Priest does not attend; the Parish Priest discontinued being present at the Station about 20 years since in consequence of a Fight having taken place". The well is just about visible at centre right of photo, marked by a concrete pipe. See N9988 : Trinity Well, Paughanstown, Co. Louth.
