NZ3609 : Moated site, Castle Hill
near to Girsby, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Moated site, Castle Hill
A small triangular moated site close to Castle Hill Farm. Some sources suggest this may have been the site of a Roman signal station, which might be possible as there is the line of a Roman road less than 500m away. However, an archaeology website lists it as a medieval moat, though its purpose is a mystery.
