TA1627 : New Burstwick Drain Pumping System
near to Salt End, East Riding of Yorkshire, Great Britain

New Burstwick Drain Pumping System
Burstwick Drain, which drains a large proportion of the very flat area of south west Holderness, feeds into the tidal Hedon Haven connected to the River Humber at this point. During the floods in the area in the summer of 2007, Burstwick Drain was unable to feed into the River Humber at high tides causing a backlog of water behind it. Using the new pumping system, water will still be able to go into the Humber even at high tides, preventing flooding in the low-lying ground in the area.
