SP3379 : Broadgate garden island, 1969
near to Coventry, Great Britain

Broadgate garden island, 1969
At this time, Broadgate had traffic circulating on all four sides of the square, with the statue of Lady Godiva in a central garden. Behind the statue, corporation buses can be seen passing in front of the temporary prefabricated shops constructed after WW2. In the background are the spires of Holy Trinity (left) and St Michael's (right). In the centre, behind the statue, is the flèche of Coventry Cathedral, without its 'flying cross' which fell off during high winds in 1967 and was later replaced with a lighter copy. The building behind and to the left of the statue is the old central library, now demolished.
