Old Middle House Farm
Lying below the aptly named High Midge hills, Middle house is a 17th Century farm house with barns and a dovecot.
The existing house stands on what was probably a Norse settlement, later taken over as a grange by Fountains Abbey. The house is recorded as Midlow House as early as the 14th century in monastic documents. In 1480 John Brown was a shepherd here for Fountains Abbey, keeping 275 wethers and 30 hoggs. The house was abandoned in the late 1800s but has been restored and conserved by the National Trust.
