This Battle of Britain icon was later to be seen in the air as part of the flying display. Perhaps not quite as glamorous as its contemporary the Supermarine Spitfire Link planes like this were crucial in thwarting Hitler's aim of invading Britain in 1940 and in the hands of 'the Few' prevented the German Luftwaffe from ever gaining control of British airspace, a factor which helped ensure eventual Allied victory over the Axis forces.
